Weekend Program with Mitra Dean Mark Power

Attention all sangha members!  Mark your calendars for January 12-14.

Our Mitra Dean Mark Power will be at Odantapuri for a weekend program designed to build a stronger sangha.

What does it mean to be a sangha member?  What is our connection with others —  those we are close to; those we hardly know?  What do we value in being a member of the sangha?   What do we have to offer to the sangha and what is the best way to do that?

Through an experiential and interactive process, members of NB Boulder will come away with a stronger connection with each other and more appreciation of the Three Jewels and what it means to be part of a sangha. We’ll approach our learning through the Path of Mindful Activity with a discussion of the principles of Dharma Leadership. While our sangha has people involved in organization and administration positions, we can all benefit from understanding the basic principles of Dharma Leadership and how it applies to our own role in the sangha.  We strongly encourage all our members to attend.

Here is what we hope to accomplish:

  • Gain more appreciation of what it means to be a member of Nalandabodhi Boulder
  • Develop and strengthen better connections and communication with each other and become more engaged with sangha activities
  • Understand the principles of Dharma Leadership and how those principles apply to each of us individually and collectively
  • Those in leadership positions will better understand how to fulfill responsibilities using the guidance of DPR on leadership qualities
  • Members will have a deeper appreciation and understanding of the Path of Mindful Activity through our time together during the weekend

All Area Heads are requested to attend the weekend and, we hope many other members will attend. The more the merrier and the more effective our weekend together will be.  This is a special program to bring us together and strengthen our connections to each other.

Professionally, Mark worked for many years as a chaplain and palliative care consultant in hospital and hospice settings. In 2014 he shifted the focus of his career to personal and executive coaching and currently works with partners in China and the US developing programs that integrate mindful-awareness and altruism with business leadership skills.  Mark lives in Red Hook, New York. He and his wife, Marion, have two adult daughters, Cynthia and Katherine.

The “Mitra” title: In 2005, Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche empowered a group of his long-time students to be senior teachers of Nalandabodhi. He gave each of them the title Mitra, which is drawn from the Sanskrit term Kalyanamitra, “spiritual friend.” The Mitras guide Nalandabodhi’s three paths of Study, Meditation, and Mindful Activity and teach throughout the world.
