Shakyamuni Festival

Tuesday May 29 from 7:00 to 8:00 PM

Shakyamuni Festival (also known as Saka Dawa) is celebrated by Buddhist communities world wide. It is that time of year where we recollect the birth, enlightenment, and death of Shakyamuni, the historical buddha who taught the dharma in northern India 2600 years ago. At this time, we not only remember these activities in his life, but reflect on their meaning and how that can impact and inspire us on our own journeys now in 2018.

At Nalandabodhi, there will have a session of chanting and singing 7 – 8:00 pm. We will do special chants that invoke and praise Shakyamuni Buddha and all the teachers and lineage who guide us on this path. At this time, we make offerings of generosity and appreciation. In keeping with our new tradition, you can make offerings of fruit to our shrine, or offerings of money to the center or to teachers. We will offer a toast to the Buddha and reflect on the meaning of his birth and enlightenment in our lives. Do you have a story to tell from Shakyamuni Buddha’s life? Or a story to share how the Buddha has touched your life? This evening program is open to the public and members of other Buddhist communities.  We will be collecting food and perishables for a local non-profit.  Please bring your non-perishable food item or toiletries!
