Symbolizing the Awakened Heart: Buddhist Visual Literacy

November 17 and November 18

On our dharma path, how can we connect with Tibetan Buddhist iconography in a meaningful and experiential way?

In this presentation, visiting teacher Stephanie Johnston will explore how symbols are essential to communicating the view in Tibetan Buddhism and their role in a practitioner’s path. Using principles of visual literacy, traditional Tibetan Buddhist iconography, and teachings on valid cognition, Stephanie will open the door to the Buddhist Science of Creativity and the Arts, and look into buddha nature as expressed through body, speech, and mind. Everyone’s welcome. No prerequisites required — just a sense of curiosity!

All sessions are accompanied by some lecture, slides, investigation, and dialog with participants.

Date/Time:  Friday November 17 from 7:00 to 8:30 and Saturday, November 18, from 9:30 to 5:00.  There will be 4 talks on Saturday with breaks.
